Personal comfort items needed during a disaster vary by individual, but are the most important after food, water and shelter needs are met.  

PERSONAL SUPPLIES:

  • Waterless soap for each sink in your home, plus extra
  • Plastic bucket with tight lid, and plastic garbage bags with twist ties (in case you can't use your toilet)
  • powdered chlorinated lime - add to sewage to deodorize and disinfect
  • newspaper to wrap garbage and waste
  • Nice to have: portable self-contained toilet and supplies
  • toilet paper - at least 2 rolls per person
  • antibacterial soap in soap container
  • packaged clean-up wipes
  • toothbrushes and toothpaste
  • comb and/or hairbrush
  • mirror
  • washcloths
  • towels
  • Spare prescription glasses (an old pair) or contact lenses with cleaning kit
  • Insect repellant - 1 bottle per person
  • prescription medicines - 4-week supply, plus copies of prescriptions
  • multivitamins - at least 4 weeks' supply
  • personal protection for women - 3 week supply
