The Time Manager

Set up an emergency household notebook/planner. If you already use a planner, set up an emergency section in it.

It should be readily available, and heave every piece of information (see below). If you follow my guidelines, your financial situation will be under control if you need a loan or emergency assistance before you get back home.

Make a list of everything you would take with you in evacuation and its location - keep a copy here and posted somewhere you can find easily (inside a kitchen cabinet, on a bulletin board).

IMPORTANT DOCUMENTS & FINANCIAL RECORDS: make copies of the following documents and keep them in a brightly-colored waterproof envelope in your go-bag. Of course, you should keep the originals in a safe-deposit box:

  • Wills
  • Insurance policies
  • Deeds/Mortgage information
  • Social Security Cards
  • Passports
  • Bank Account Numbers
  • Credit Card Numbers & Notification Information
  • Stocks & Bonds
  • Photo ID's
  • Proof of Address (you may need that to return to your neighborhood after evacuation)
  • Emergency Phone Numbers
  • Home inventory
  • First Aid kit contents
  • Personal medical forms
  • Evacuation checklist
  • Disaster Kit contents
  • Copy medical insurance cards and Medicare cards
  • List prescriptions or each person, prescription number, pharmacy, physician and why taking
  • Medical information for each family member, including allergies
  • Medical release forms

PHOTOGRAPHS & MEMORABILIA:you can't replace them, and they are
your history.  Especially after a disaster, they will be so important to you! Scan them into your computer and copy to a CD/DVD. Keep negatives and electronic copies of digital photos in your safe deposit box. Upload all to an online service(Flickr, Kodak, etc.)...do whatever you must to preserve them but do it now! Keep your hard copies in albums or boxes that you can grab if evacuating, or protect from damage if you're at home.

---- Remember, in many emergencies, your computer will be inaccessible, so a hard copy of any Paradise Organized chapters you find especially helpful is a good thing to have on hand! ----
