The Time Manager

If there is nothing else you take away from this website, it must

be to set up some sort of "moving central" office.

You will need someplace to organize all the information you'll be collecting, all of your to-do lists, appointments, paint swatches, etc. While you can keep this in your daily planner, I find that I always have way too much material to keep in my regular planner. My moving planner

goes everywhere I go, and my daily planner stays in the car in case I need it.

You will also need a central location to keep all of your packing supplies if you are doing your own packing. See Packing & Inventory.

MOVING PLANNER SECTIONS:

  • Scheduling and Timetables: working backwards from your target date, fill inMoving Planner deadlines and dates.  If you are like I am, you'll have days when you feel like organizing and days when you feel like tackling the dirty work. In that case, you can keep the specific chores in the appropriate section and choose your days' work to match your mood.

  • Planning: here will go your lists, plans, truck information, budget, shopping lists, etc.  Anything that you'll need to look up in a pinch.

  • Wrapping Up: loose ends to take care of before leaving - doctors, dentists, lawyers, etc.  Get referrals. Notify your schools, church, SSA, VA, IRS, etc. Job projects to turn over to co-workers.

  • Cleaning and Repairs: everything needed to turn your house over - go through every room and write down everything that needs cleaning or repairing.  Be sure to include thorough/detailed cleaning lists.

  • Weeding and Organizing: Organizing hints, garage sale hints, how to group your items, what to keep and what to toss

  • Inventory and Packing: inventory of your packed boxes, as well as packing tips (by room).  Include the specifics here, such as the Survival Kit (Load Last/Unload First)

  • House-hunting: furniture arrangements, kitchen cabinet plans, shopping lists, things to do for your new house, house-hunting checklists, paint chips and fabrics, etc.
